“Drawing is the highest point of painting, sculpture and architecture; drawing is the source and soul of all kinds of painting and the root of all science. To him who has achieved so much that he has mastered drawing, I would say that he possesses a valuable treasure”. © Michelangelo Buonarotti
We help you to get ready for audition and prepare portfolio for Art Schools and Colleges
We at Art School by Marina Krutko prepare children for Middle and High art schools, art schools such as Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH), Miami Arts Charter School (MAC), NWSA High School, and art and architecture colleges. Our preparation program incorporates the fundamentals of fine arts and builds on the programs of study for art school entrance competition. By attending the training program, students gain the knowledge and skills they need to be successful on the exams. The artwork completed in class will be included in a portfolio.
What goes into preparing for an audition?
As a rule, each art school sets its own requirements for the student’s portfolio for admission. Depending on the school you choose, you will need between 7 and 15 pieces of artwork and a sketchbook.
All of the assignments that children complete at our school are portfolios. We follow strictly the program: we learn both academic drawing and painting. Then we use all these works in the portfolio for auditions for middle and high schools.
As for directions, schools, as a rule, ask us to show a variety of works. For example, still lifes, landscapes, self-portraits should be made with different types of materials. And also obligatory additional creative works on any topic of interest to the child, where his/her fantasies and creative impulses will be realized. And, of course, a sketchbook of months or years of work must be provided.
For college auditions, we prepare a minimum of 15 art pieces, depending on what the specific college’s requirements are. This is usually either 15 works on a specific chosen theme, or we prepare a portfolio on our themes.
At what age can a child begin audition preparation?
There is no specific age. Of course, the earlier you start preparing for admission, the more necessary skills you will acquire and the better and better we will be able to prepare your portfolio.
Is there a training program?
Of course there is. We have two options:
- We study according to the program of our school Art School by Marina Krutko, and the completed works will be your portfolio.
- If the child comes a few months before the audition, we prepare exclusively the necessary amount of works for the portfolio for the audition on the topics required for this or that educational institution, as well as prepare for the audition.
Are there homework assignments?
We recommend doing as homework what we do in our school classes, only in a simplified sketchbook form. This way the children will build up their sketchbooks more quickly so that they can then submit them at auditions.
The child should show up in his sketchbook using different types of materials in his work. And if he or she is interested in a particular topic, it is better to reveal it in the sketchbook, so that the audition committee can see that the child has his or her own individual view and creative impulses.
Does a child need a base of knowledge and skills to prepare for an audition?
Certainly a child needs a base of knowledge and skills to audition for art schools and colleges. You can come to our classes to prepare for admission with a base you already have or we can give you that base.
We invite you to our Art School by Marina Krutko for successful preparation for auditions to art schools and colleges. With us you will get all the necessary knowledge and skills, and you will have a ready portfolio for further enrollment in educational institutions. We are waiting for you!
